Improving Practice in Housing for Drug Users - A Partnership Project

This paper is aimed primarily at informing and helping those involved in commissioning, planning and delivering:

  • housing
  • housing services
  • related residential rehabilitation
  • support services for drug users

It will also be of interest to anyone working with drug users with related housing needs through the criminal justice system, health and social care (hospital and community-based services) or those working with vulnerable groups.

The main focus of this paper is a selection of 13 case studies which offer examples of how housing, drug and mental health services have worked together to find sustainable and successful housing solutions for drug users.

Please read Section 1: Introduction which provides the details required to navigate through the practice paper.

NB: Section 11 will be a supporting checklist based on practice and information from the July 2008 National Working Seminar Improving Practice in Housing for Drug Users. The full report from the practice seminar is available on the main Aftercare Housing and Homelessness page.

These sections may be updated in consultation with existing partners and/or new members of the national stakeholder group so as to reflect changes in policy or practice.
