Methamphetamine Reclassified as Class A Drug

18 January 2007

Methamphetamine - often referredm to as crystal meth - was reclassified as a Class A drug on 18 January 2007.

Reclassification not only reflects the true harms of methamphetamine but is also a preventative measure against a very dangerous drug.  As a Class A drug it will attract the highest penalties for possession, supply and manufacture.

The decision was taken in the light of advice from the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs.  See the ACMD's report and latest advice for further information.
