Doctors no longer need individual Home Office licences to prescribe cocaine, diamorphine and dipipanone to addicts.

Handwriting Exemptions

Handwriting exemptions are no longer required to exempt doctors from having to hand write their prescriptions, although they will still have to sign and date prescriptions.See here for the relevant legislation (new window)

Treatment for addicts

Doctors prescribing cocaine, diamorphine and dipipanone to addicts no longer need to apply for individual Home Office Licences.

A general licence has been issued to cover those doctors who have been approved by the Department of Health.
