Domestic licences
Companies and individuals need to apply for Home Office domestic licenses if they wish to produce, supply or possess controlled drugs.
What is a controlled drug?

Drugs are controlled under the Misuse of Drugs legislation and are grouped under different schedules. Anyone producing, supplying or possessing controlled drugs needs to apply for a licence.
Applying for a domestic licence

Anybody who applies for a domestic licence must ensure that they have read the relevant guidance regarding security and standard operating procedures(SOPs).

Company licences
Any company that wishes to produce, supply or possess controlled drugs will need a Home Office domestic licence.

Doctors licences
Doctors approved by the Department of Health to prescribe cocaine, diamorphine and dipipanone to addicts no longer need to apply for individual Home Office licences.
Please note: Doctors also no longer require handwriting exemptions to issue computer generated prescriptions.
