Drug strategy

Department for Children, Schools and Families

Education is one of the cornerstones of the National Drugs Strategy, and the Department for Children, Schools and Families plays a crucial role in its delivery, advising schools on drugs education.

The DCSF recommends that drugs education should be provided as part of a personal, social and health education (PSHE) programme, to give young people the knowledge and skills to make an informed choice.

Drugs education is a key component of the National Healthy School Standard, a joint initiative between DCSF and the Department of Health.

The National Connexions Unit is part of DCSF and supports the work of Connexions Partnerships. Connexions Partnerships manage local delivery of the Connexions Service, a youth support service for teenagers. Connexions personal advisers co-ordinate help for drug misuse problems from the various agencies involved in careers, health and youth services.
