Drug strategy
Local implementation
Local drug strategies, based on community engagement, set out what any local area will do to tackle the harm caused by drugs, address the needs of families affected by drug misuse and support the social re-integration of problem drug users.
The performance of local areas in delivering local strategies is measured against four drugs-specific national indicators. The Comprehensive Area Assessment process will look at how effectively the local authority and its partners have put plans in place to tackle the harm caused by drugs.
The Local Government White Paper Strong and Prosperous Communities 2006 (new window), Communities in control: real people, real power 2008 (new window) and the Policing Green Paper 2008 (new window) provide the framework for the delivery of local strategies, giving local people and local communities more influence and power to improve their lives and their local public services.
