Drug Interventions Programme
Treatment
A critical element of the Programme is the delivery of a broad range of effective treatment.
Treatment works where it is based on a proper assessment of individual needs and circumstances and can end or reduce criminal activity in many clients. Such assessments inform decision-making across both the criminal justice system and treatment and healthcare sectors, such as in court where bail and sentencing is being considered and in prison where different treatment options can be offered.
The National Treatment Agency (NTA) is a special health authority, created by the Government in 2001 to improve the availability, capacity and effectiveness of treatment for drug misuse in England. In other words, to ensure that there is more treatment, better treatment and fairer treatment available to all those who need it..
