Background/what the project does
This project, set up by mothers from the local community, is part of Knowle West Against Drugs - an independent service operating in South Bristol. It is aimed at helping people from the area that have been convicted of burglary, where the crime was related to their drug habit. The project aims to give them the help and advice they need to make a fresh start, often after leaving prison.

Individuals coming to the scheme for help will be give a dedicated support worker, who will provide a confidential and safe place to talk.  Practical advice includes help with benefits and housing, education and training, advocacy, in-house services for drug users and referrals to detox and rehabilitation services.

What makes it different
A specific focus on helping those involved in burglary to make a fresh start, breaking the chain of drug use and the crime required to feed the habit. The project is community based and led, so that it remains local and can establish trust with people recently released from prison or still using drugs. KWADS also offers a range of complementary therapies for those undergoing detox.
